Our word binders are a way for children to collect the words they learn and have a handy, durable place where they can refer to them again and again. If you notice - our word cards are themed. This makes it an excellent resource for when your child is writing a story.
Sometimes children are frustrated because they can't express themselves with the rich, descriptive words they know will make their writing better. They will sometimes say they don't know what to say, when they are really trying to say they don't know the words to express themselves. Here is how MWS can help with that.
Are they having difficulty describing a character? Turn to the character words in their binder. Ask them to think of the character and what words would best describe them. They'll be writing about pot-bellied bears with beady eyes making devious plans in no time.
You can also talk to your child about the difference between the words. Children sometimes need clarification on word choice. For example, is it better to use 'stagger' or is it better to choose 'trudge' when writing about a character walking through heavy mud?
