We structure the workbook to teach young people at least a word each day. We base this on the neuroscientific principle of "spaced repetition". According to research, our brains can only recall up to 7 items at a time. The number can be as low as four.
What helps solidify our recall is repetition - but that repetition has to happen over an extended period of time. As anyone who has ever crammed for an exam knows, you may be able to cram enough for the exam itself. But days, sometimes as little as a few hours later, you realise you don't remember what you'd learned.
With our workbooks, we encourage children to learn 1 word a day. As you build up your word knowledge, remember to go back and refresh your memory by flipping through your word cards.
